In this collection, all the wit of Roman versificatory art is present, starting from the title, Ahó!, the most polysemic interjection of the Capitol, a primitive expression that does not have an absolute meaning: it can indicate a call, invective, annoyance, threat, surprise; what determines its communicative impact is the color of the phonetic intonation and an ad hoc mimic, qualities in which the Romans are masters. The author narrates everyday life illustrating it with the proverbial sardonic shrewdness of the Romans, half bitter and half sweet. The result is a tasty contribution to that vanished Rome made of passions, irony, and frank sincerity, through verses written "from the heart" deliberately without rules, breaking away from every cliché, convention, and metric. The texts, more than read, should be interpreted with the passion of someone who is Roman at heart and represent a courageous attempt at the evolution of the dialect itself. | |
